Entry: Call for Applicants 4.21.2006

The Asia-Europe Forum for Young Photographers 2006 is intended for 21 participants (11 from Asia including 2 from the Philippines) and 10 Europeans and will last from 21 to 28 August 2006 in Manila, The Philippines. It is co-organised by the Asia-Europe Foundation, World Press Photo Foundation and the Philippine Center for Photojournalism.

The goals of the Asia-Europe Forum for Young Photographers 2006 (Manila, The Philippines) are:

1. To create a network of young talented photographers from Europe and Asia and to discuss the professional commonalties and differences in their working environments.

2. To draw attention to the opportunities that both markets provide, the business attitudes in both regions and to discuss potential sales strategies.

3. To improve the understanding of documentary photography and photojournalism and develop a better sense for excellent and/or new esthetical approaches to this type of work

It will consist of presentations by tutors, a practical assignment for the participants (2 days) and reviews of that assignment.

Please check http://asef.org for the weblinks to the Photo Forum 2003 in Amsterdam and the Photo Forum 2004 in Hanoi, which contain an overview on the programme, assignments and other information. These would be relevant references for you to have a better idea of the scope of the Forum.

In order to give each of the participants enough individual attention, there will be two Asian tutors (including one from the Philippines) and two European tutors. The tutors will be photographers and picture editors of high international reputation in the field of documentary photography with extensive working experience in Europe and Asia and a proven background in educational projects. In terms of logistics and finance, please note that WPPF, Philippine Center for Photojournalism and ASEF are still securing funding to cover the cost of the Forum. Please note that the final decision on the selection of your student and the confirmation of the event, based on the confirmed securing of additional funding, will be known to you latest by 31 May 2006.
