Entry: Asia-Europe Forum for Young Photographers 2006 8.1.2006



The Philippine Center for Photojournalism, the Asia-Europe Foundation(ASEF) and the World Press Photo Foundation (WPPF) are co-organising the Asia-Europe Forum for Young Photographers in Manila, Philippines on 21-27 August 2006, bringing together 21 photojournalists from Europe and Asia.

 

Magdalena Herrera, Art Director for National Geographic (France), Hans-Jürgen Burkard, photographer for Stern Magazine (Germany) and veteran Filipino photojournalists, Alex Baluyut and Romeo Gacad of AFP have been invited to facilitate the sharing of experiences, techniques and concepts amongst the young photojournalists.

 

This project maintains to its objectives, as an ASEF Cultural Exchange programme, of creating a network of young photographers and providing a platform for discussion on the professional commonalties and differences evident in photojournalism. 

 

This year Urban Youth will be the focus of the two and half day photo assignment in Manila.  Photo stories comprise of over 160 images will be shared by the young participants with the public at the SM - Mall of Asia on 27 August 2007, 7 PM.

 

The 2006 Asia-Europe Forum for Young Photographers marks the renewal of partnership between the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) and World Press Photo Foundation (WPPF), after the success of the fora organised in Amsterdam in 2003 and in Hanoi in 2004. Exhibitions following these events received more than 50,000 visitors in Amsterdam and Hanoi during ASEM5 (in partnership with Ministry of Culture and Information, Vietnam and Vietnam Pictorial).
